At BDW International School, Shillong we follow a comprehensive curriculum. This Curriculum makes the teaching-learning process a joy for the children and interesting for the teachers too. It has structured teaching plans, activities, assignment schedule, assessment and remedial classes. The structure is such that it is inclusive for the children with diverse abilities and backgrounds and is responsive to emerging issues like environment, conflict resolution, harmony, peace and co-existence. Our curriculum emphasizes on important areas of knowledge, authentic and contextualized problems of study, and problem-solving that enhances skills development as well as knowledge acquisition

Our teachers are carefully chosen having aptitude and experience to teach the young children. Once they join the school they are taken through extensive Training & Orientation Program. BDWIS has continuous and comprehensive in-service orientation, education and training program for teachers which is detailed and helps them in establishing and reaching their individual goals. They are dynamic, relaxed and enthusiastic with the ability to create a friendly atmosphere in which the children can express themselves and learn.

As per CBSE norms, there can be 40 students in each classroom, however in BDWIS, there will be maximum28 Students in each classroom in Pre-Primary and 32 students from class 1 upwards.

The school follows the examination/assessment process set by CBSE. The school has designed a creative and comprehensive evaluation system for Pre Primary and Primary Classes. All this is done well within CBSE purview and is based upon Global Best Practices.

Our teachers encourage the development of each child by providing security and warmth and they emphasize on self-discipline more than authority and encouragement rather than punishment. We follow Hon’ble Supreme Court of India’s Guidelines in this regard where our teachers follow non-corporal punishment policy.

The Medium of Instruction in the school is English. It will not only be an English medium school, but it will be an English-speaking school too. The local language will be taught as per the board norms. At BDWIS we have introduced Khasi as the third language from class 1 onwards.

We follow strict admission norms. Proper admission procedure is followed and only then a child is given admission. We conduct these admission formalities in the month of August- September every year. Only the transfer cases are entertained after this time duration.

We, at BDWIS have tried to simplify the admission process of the school. We follow a set of admission rules. The rules are as follows: The first step towards admission of a child involves the registration process. For Registration, parents/ guardians can place online enquiry and register on the school’s website.

No, there are no formal aptitude tests conducted, as mentioned in the CBSE bylaws. An interactive meeting between the Principal of the School and the Parents’ of the child along with the child is conducted and a Aptitude Test for assessment of child.

We believe that parents are an integral part of a child’s learning experience. We involve parents in the learning, on a regular basis. Interaction between the teachers and the parents is regarded with utmost importance and carried out on a frequent basis.

Yes, except the second and third language teachers, all staff members converse in English. All the students are expected to converse with each other only in English language.

YES, we do provide school transport facility on pre-decided roots at fixed pick up point. The details of the same can be obtained from the transport department of the school.

The Parents can visit the school with prior appointment. They need to contact the school office for the appointment.
